Recommended Rear Suspension Enhancement for 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500
Question:
Hello, I was looking to get your input and recommendation on which rear suspension enhancement is best for my needs. I have a 2017 chevy silverado 2 wheel drive 1/2 ton. Im pulling a 2018 hideout 28bhs travel trailer. Weighted down its about 7500lbs. Tongue weight about 800lbs. With the weight distribution set up the truck sags about 4 inches. Whenever I back up especially tight spots I undo the weight distribution tension bars to get better turning response in those tight spots. BUT when I do that my truck drops way to much. Maybe 8 inches plus which makes me nervous. Which rear suspension enhancement would you guys recommend?

For your 2017 Chevy Silverado, I recommend the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs # F2430. These air springs are confirmed to fit your truck and will do a great job of enhancing the factory suspension and leveling your Silverado when hauling heavy loads. I like this system because it will allow you to maintain an even load distribution, regardless of whether or not you are pulling your trailer, as the air bags can be adjusted manually, side to side, with individual inflation valves. This will provide you with a smooth ride even when you aren't pulling or hauling anything in the truck. Just note that the system is not compatible with an in-bed hitch (gooseneck or fifth-wheel).
I have attached an installation video on your 2017 Silverado that you can use for reference.
I also recommend making sure that your existing weight distribution system is properly rated for your trailer tongue weight. Ideally, a weight distribution system should resolve the rear truck sag you are experiencing. When determining if the system is rated properly for your setup, you will want to calculate your total tongue weight. This includes both the loaded tongue weight of your trailer, along with any added cargo weight coming from behind the rear axle of your Silverado. This should fall comfortably within the tongue weight range of your particular weight distribution system.
You might also need to adjust the spring bars a bit on the system itself. This process will be detailed in the instructions manual for your system. If you can give me the manufacturer and model system that you have, I will be happy to walk you through this as well, along with confirming if it is properly rated for your setup.
