The Tekonsha Prodigy RF Wireless Trailer Brake Controller # TK94FR is a great unit for use with your 2014 BMW X5d. To make this unit interchangeable with multiple trailers, you will need to manufacture a bracket that will allow the unity to firmly attach to each trailer within the required mounting locations of your trailer frames. I've attached the installation details to assist as well as some videos.
For instance, you might consider using frame brackets similar to # C17508 to allow mounting to different frame sizes in the same location on each trailer. You will want to ensure you have a solid mount and this sandwich style mount is the first thing that comes to mind as a possible solution.
