The Roadmaster XL Base Plates, # 483-1, are the correct base plates for a 2001 Mazda B Series truck. You will need a tow bar that is compatible with XL style base plates. There are several different models available and I have included a link to them for you to view.
I recommend the RoadMaster Tracker Tow Bar, # RM-020, as an economical option. In order to make the XL arms removable, you will also need Quick Disconnects, # RM-201, when using this tow bar. I have included a link to the installation details for you to view.
In addition to base plates and a tow bar, there are 3 additional items you will need to flat tow your truck: safety cables, lighting, and a supplemental braking system. For safety cables, I recommend the Roadmaster Coiled Cables, # RM-643. The coiled design will keep the cables off of the ground.
For lighting and braking, there are a couple of different options. I have included a link to our series of FAQ articles on flat towing. Here, you will find a wealth of information that will help you to choose the correct lighting and braking solutions for your truck.
