Will Replacing Trailer's Old Truck Axle with the Timbren System Decrease the Trailer's Weight
Question:
Hello, I have recently purchased a trailer that was made from a 60s era utility truck bed. I plan on using it as a small camper for camping and light off road trips. Upon further inspection under the trailer I see it has a huge 1 ton axle. my question for you is if I replace the current leaf spring and axle setup with a axle-less system with electric brake hub, will this lower my weight of the trailer overall? Thanks for your time.

I don't know exactly how much that truck axle weighs but I think it's safe to say it'll come to several hundred pounds with all the suspension parts.
The Timbren Heavy-Duty System, part # ASR35HDS02, weighs about 150 pounds to ship. So it'll be slighty under that. You also need to add in the hubs to fit, like part # AKHD-655-6-EZ-K, and the brake assemblies, like part # AKEBRK-7-SA, which weight about 45 pounds and 30 pounds respectively. All of that is about 225 pounds so I think it will weigh dramatically less making your trailer lighter. Plus, the Timbren system will greatly improve the ride, and likely give you more ground clearance.
