Can Curt Front Mount Trailer Hitch # C31068 for a 2009 Ford F-150 Hold a Bike Rack and 4 Bikes
Question:
I am using my truck to pull a trailer and want to add a front hitch to carry a Thule hitch mounted bike rack and 2 to 4 adult bikes around 210 lbs total max. Is this something that can be done with your hitch? Thank You

According to the instructions for the Curt Front Mount Hitch, # C31068, the tongue weight capacity for the hitch is 500 pounds. While this is enough capacity to handle a 4 bike rack and 4 bikes, you will need to check the owners manual for the front axle capacity to make sure that you do not exceed it. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you to view. This hitch fits 4 wheel drive models of the 2009 Ford F-150.
Another factor that may be an issue is visibility. The bikes may block the headlamps on the truck and/or not allow you to see enough of the road. If this is the case, an alternate location for the bikes should be used.
Some people are also concerned about blocking airflow to the engine. Since the airflow will be somewhat reduced and you will be towing a trailer, excessive heat build up is more likely. I recommend then adding a transmission cooler and engine oil cooler to make up for the loss in efficiency. I have included links to the cooler main pages for you to view.
