Options for Adding Lights to Flat Tow a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Behind a Motor Home

Question:

I just bought a BX1128 from you along with a few other items. I am now contemplating wiring the tailights on my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Do you have any insight or specifics on using the diode kit on the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee? I have the Blue Ox tailight bulb kit but am hesitant to drill holes in my new tail lights. Some have inferred that diodes might cause problems with the Jeeps sensors. Do you have any definitive information?

I do not have specific information on a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and diodes. The diodes simply act as a gate and gate keeper, letting the signals pass through one way so that it does not back feed and damage the electrical system.

Another option is to use a light kit. We have several to choose from depending on how you want to mount them. I would recommend going with the magnetic kit, # RM-2120. No drilling, no cutting and splicing wires are involved.

I have also included a link to our series of FAQ articles on flat towing, some of which cover the lighting options and wiring in diodes. We also have a video showing a typical diode installation I will link for you.
