Will Fat Bikes Fit on Thule OutWay Trunk Bike Rack

Question:

Will the Thule OutWay Platform PRO 2 fit 2 9zero7 fatbikes with 5’ studded snow tires? I love the idea of this rack, but am concerned about the fit. I have already figured out that its compatible with my 2014 Rav4. Any help is appreciated.

The Thule OutWay Platform part # TH65JV will not work with your bike because the tires are too wide. This Platform carrier works with tires up to to 3-1/2 inches wide. Instead, I recommend instead, the Thule OutWay # TH45JV hanging bike carrier. Looking at your frame, you'd have to use a bike frame adapter bar like the part # UB01 which I attached an install video for.

Some additional questions: What about the additional width of the tires? My bike's tires are twice the width of a normal mountain bike's tires. Will the wide tires fit into the tire grooves of the rack? And second, my bike is an electric bike so the weight is greater than for a regular bike. I could remove the battery to decrease weight, but would this rack sustain a bike that weighed in closer to 50 lbs?

The Thule Raceway PRO # TH9003PRO can handle tire widths of up to 3". It also has a weight capacity of 35 pounds per bike, so it's really not a good option for your heavier e-bike. Trunk racks pretty much top out at 35 pounds per-bike, so your best option is going to be with a hitch-mounted carrier. If you can tell me what vehicle you have, I would be happy to recommend both a hitch and rack that would work great.
