How to Install the Thule Replacement Dual Force Strut, part # TH14936 on the Thule Cargo Box

Question:

How do I replace the strut on my Thule? Does it need to be riveted? I assumed it was just screwed on but I was mistaken. Does Thule have instructions on their website? Thanks for your time.

I went out in our warehouse and looked at the Thule Frontier and Mountaineer cargo boxes. The Thule Replacement Dual Force Strut, part # TH14936 is actually just snapped on to a ball socket on the top lid and a ball socket on the bottom of the cargo box. The holes on the end of each lever of the strut will just snap over the ball on the mounting brackets. I pulled it off and snapped it back on but it did require some pressure to remove and install.

If you are having a problem snapping the strut on to the ball you might try using a hair dryer on the plastic end of the strut to get it warm which might help you snap it on.
