Can Air Suspension Enhancement Be Used with Weight Distribution System

Question:

I pull a travel trailer using a Reese SC 14000/1400 hitch with my 2011 F250 4x4 6.7. The weight of the TT is around 12500 so i assume the tongue is at 1250 ish. When i hook up my TT, i always get a bit of sag even when using the Reese load distributing hitch. If I install the air bags and level the truck to normal, will this unload the torsion bars and reduce the effectiveness of the WD and anti sway? Can i adjust the hitch to compensate? Thanks!

Expert Reply:

A properly set up and rated weight distribution system should reduce most of the sag from towing a trailer. But in your case you are most likely at the higher end of the tongue weight capacity where it's basically impossible to totally eliminate the sag. So suspension enhancement like the part # AL57396 can be used and will help.

That said, tongue weight can be up to 15 percent of the total trailer weight so you'd be best served determining your tongue weight like what's outlined in the attached help article below. You need to verify you aren't overloading your setup.

When using air suspension enhancement with weight distribution you have to first set the air pressure then set up the spring bar tension needed. So you will need to adjust the tension you are currently using.
