Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver for a 1999 E-450 Ambulance

Question:

Im looking for a hitch to install onto a 99 Ford E-450 Ambulance. Do you happen to know what one of your hitches will work? I still need the step in the reargurney slide functional.

A great trailer hitch receiver that is compatible with a 1999 Ford E-450 chassis is the Draw-Tite Ultra Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 41906. However, we have not had the opportunity to install this on an ambulance so I cannot confirm how it will fit with the rear gurney step.

If you check out the picture I attached you can see that the top of the receiver sits about the same height of of the crossmember which is about 2-1/4" from the top of the mounting bracket. You can also see that the front of the hitch receiver sticks out about 7-1/2" from the rearmost bolt hole. You can use these dimensions to gauge where exactly the receiver will sit for compatibility.

The holes in my frame are 39 inches apart. And, I have an E450 handicap bus that we have partially converted. What hitch might you have and could recommend. Thanks. Jim

Since your Ford E-450 is a bus you'll need to go with more of a universal hitch like the Curt # C99CR or # C47CR. The cab is the same as an E-450 but the body will be different which is why you won't be able to use a standard trailer hitch.
