Factory Integrated Trailer Brake Controller Setup on a 2011 Chevy Silverado  

Question:

We have 2011 Chev silverado with a factory trailer plug and trailer brake. We need to connect the trailer brake we have not been able to find the information to do this..

To setup up the integrated brake controller that is on your 2011 Chevy Silverado you will need to first attach the 7-way from your trailer to the 7-way of your truck. Your truck should automatically detect that a trailer is connected at this point. If not, press one of the gain buttons of the controller to bring up the current trailer gain setting that you have.

Next, you will want to set the correct trailer gain setting. To do this you will want to pull the trailer at about 25 MPH and apply the override lever all the way to fully engage the trailer brakes. You will want to adjust the gain up to the point that when you apply the lever the trailer brakes lock up, and then go one click lower than that.

Every time you switch trailers, or load or unload your trailer you will want to repeat the above mentioned process so that you have optimum brake power control.
