What Type of Fifth Wheel Hitch Will Allow Quite a Bit of Movement When Accelerating and Stopping

Question:

How much ‘slack’ is in your 5th wheel hitches...I have a Reesei 20K with what seams to be maybe a half inch each way. I always ‘stretch it out, before accelerating, and ‘bunch it up when stopping.

Some hitches have more slack than others. It really depends on the jaw design how much will be there. If it's a slide bar style there's going to be quite a bit like what you mentioned. If there's a double jaw or single hook that wraps around the king pin (and the jaw system hasn't worn out) you should get a very solid connection that would not give you the type of slack or movement you described.

I am not totally sure what 20k hitch you have, but the Reese Select Plus 20k part # RP30081 has a great jaw design that would give you a quiet ride. If you are looking to upgrade this would be a great option. If this is what you have currently let me know.
