How to Choose Correct Ball Mount for 2017 Ram 2500

Question:

I recently purchased a 2017 Ram 2500 that has a class v hitch. I noticed it is considerably higher than my previous 1500. I was wondering how much of a I need when purchasing a ball mount. From some the reviews I read, I saw a picture and testament from a customer with a 2500 that stated since the hitch sits 24inch from the ground that a 10-inch is suggested. What do you think?

The amount of drop you need on a ball mount with your 2017 Ram 2500 will depend on the height of the trailer you plan on towing.

In order to choose the correct ball mount for your truck, you will need to take two measurements. First, with your Ram parked on level ground, take a measurement from the ground to the top of the hitch receiver. Then with your trailer on level ground, measure from the ground to the bottom of the coupler. You will simply need a ball mount that features a drop closest to the difference between the two measurements you took.

If you plan on towing multiple trailers, a really nice option is an adjustable ball mount like the Weigh Safe # WS10-25 for 2-1/2 inch hitch receivers. This ball mount can be adjusted up to a 11 inch rise or down to a 10 inch drop. It also includes a 2 inch and 2-5/16 inch ball. I have attached a short video demonstration on this ball mount, along with a link that will take you to our available selection that you can look through. I have also attached a great article on choosing a ball mount that you might find helpful.
