It sounds like you are needing to determine the correct wire on your Kia Sorento to connect with the red wire on a trailer brake controller, such as the excellent Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195.
The red wire from the brake controller will connect to the cold side of the brake light switch on your Sorento. In order to determine which of the wires under the brake pedal is the cold side, you will need to use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to find the wire that receives voltage only when the brakes are applied (and none when they are not).
Based on my research, the brake light switch on your 2012 Kia Sorento should be a yellow wire, but you will still want to test them to make sure.
