The best way to troubleshoot your running lights not working on your trailer when the other functions are working is to check your vehicle fuses in your owners manual. Often a trailer or parking light fuse is to blame.
If you fuse is good, then I recommend you use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to check the running light function at your trailer connector. I've attached an article to assist with this pin location (normally a brown wire). If this functions at your connector, then a bad ground on your trailer or a short in that wire is usually the issue. Start with the ground ensuring it is a bare metal to metal connection clean of corrosion or debris.
If that is not the issue and you've isolated it to a wire on the vehicle or the trailer, then use the circuit tester every few feet probing the wire for function to find the short and replace that portion of wire as needed using # 16-1-1.
