Recommended Black Wheels and Larger Tires to Replace 4.80x12 Tires

Question:

I currently have a trailer rated to 890 lbs with 4.80X12 tires with 12x4 rims and 5 X 4 1/2 bolt pattern. If I have room can I go up to 14 X 5 rims and associated tires. I dont need to load range of group C but Id like bigger tires and would like to get black rims. You cant get balck rims in smaller 12 tires correct?

Jumping from 12 inch wheels to 14 inch wheels is a large jump. You'd me moving from a diameter of 20.5 inches to about 26.3 inches. If you have the room, that will work but you do need to have about 4 inches above your tire for proper suspension movement (deflection).

My recommendation is to stay with your 12 inch wheels and use the Kenda Karrier ST145/R12 Radial Trailer Tire with 12" Black Mod Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - LR D # AM35354. This does give you a slightly higher load rating, but it will also give you a slightly bigger tire with black wheels. This combination has an outer diameter of 21.3 inches and width of 5.7 inches compared to the 4.80 inches.
