Mounting Hole Size for A-Frame Trailer Jacks

Question:

Could I use a jack that is side mounted to the frame? With U bolts? Would I have to worry about balance or would the 3-4 inch off-center placement not make that much of a difference? I thought about drilling new holes but the issue is that because of the placement of "hole for the jack", the 3 inch triangle would not even touch the sides of the trailer frame...it would basically slide through. Does that make sense?

The mounting hole dimensions of A-frame jacks are a standard 3 inches apart on center, so you will need to weld your new jack on. I highly recommend the etrailer Round, A-Frame Jack # TJA-5000S-B, which has a 5,000 lb capacity and will give you 15" of lift. It has an outer tube diameter of 2-1/4" and sidewind handle; for a footplate you would want # JF-99. This jack has been highly praised by our customers. I've added links to video reviews of this jack for you to take a look at as well.

What you said in terms of drilling makes sense and you would be able to use a side-mounted jack with your A-frame pop-up without worrying about balance. What you will need to know is the weight capacity and height you need, as well as the dimensions of the A-frame where the jack will mount. For example, the Fulton F2 # F1413230134 has a 2,000 lb capacity, a lift height of 10" and fits 4" and 5" frames. Another example would be the etrailer Square Jack # MJSQ-2500B which has a 2,500 lb capacity, offers 15-3/8" of travel and fits trailer frames that are between 2" - 5" high and no more than 3" wide. I've added a link to our page with each of our bolt-on side mount jacks for you to take a look at.
