Curt Cargo Carrier # C18145 Recommendation for a 2002 Jeep Wrangler
Question:
I was wondering if I can use the reducer to go from 2 to 1 1/4 hitch with this rack? I have a Jeep Wrangler and it has a 1 1/4 tow hitch already installed on it. I would mainly be using the carrier for suit cases, coolers, and no more than around 300-400 pounds of cargo. Thank you,

I would recommend you use a Curt 20x48 Cargo Carrier # C18145 on your Jeep Wrangler as it is designed to be used on hitches with 1-1/4 inch openings. This hitch measures 6 inches from the center of the hitch pin to the nearest upright portion of the cargo carrier. You will want to measure from the center of the hitch pin hole on your hitch out 6 inches and see if the bumper or anything else would interfere, if not then this hitch would work well for you. This way you would not need a hitch adapter.
You could use a hitch adapter with a carrier but when you use a hitch adapter you effectively cut the tongue weight capacity of the hitch in half. I attached an FAQ on hitch adapters for you to check out also.
The # C18145 has up to a 500 lb tongue weight capacity, you will want to check the tongue weight capacity of your vehicle and your hitch and go with the lowest number as your overall towing capacity.
