Comparing Pewag Square and Glacier Square Link Mud Service Chains

Question:

Im looking for a Quality non China Tire Chain for my 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD. I think I would prefer a Non Cam Chain. We have a long driveway and do not want the chains loosening while backing up. I prefer to spend less than $250. I am considering the Pewag PWE2228S or Glacier Mud Service. Can help me decide between the two or even another set?

Between the two sets of chains the Pewag All Square Snow Tire Chains # PWE2228S has a few distinct advantages. The links are square which means they are taller and will do better in deep snow. The set is also reversible which means you get quite a bit more life out of the chains than a set that is not.

The Glacier brand of chains like (Discontinued) PWH2328SLC are the entry level line to the Pewag brand. This specific set uses twist link chains which means that it will be a bit smoother when travelling in shallower snow but won't be quite as effective as square links.

It sounds like the square link chains would be better for you anyway.
