Tire Chain Compatibility on 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Equipped with 255/75/17 Mud Tires

Question:

Hi me and my husband are going to Gatlinburg, TN early January and we are from Florida we thought it would be wise to purchase a snow chain instead of buying winter/ snow tires. I was wondering if any one of the snow chains you have would go well with my tires. Its 255/75/17 but my jeep came with mud terrain tires so I wanted to know if it would fit on them. Thank you!

I reviewed the online edition of the owner's manual for the 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and on pages 423/4 it notes that large tires like your 255/75/17 mud/snow tires cannot use tire chains. The reason is inadequate clearance within the wheel wells and around components like brake lines.

Special low-profile S-Class chains are made for such circumstances but according to Jeep these can be used only on smaller tire sizes P225/75R16 or P235/65R17 and then only on the rear axle.

I recommend review of your printed owner's manual. check the index under "T" and look for the subject "chains". The linked page displays the tire chains that are compatible with your tire size, but again their use is subject to what Jeep says in the manual. You can also refer to the linked article.
