Clearance at Back of RV When Using Stromberg Carlson Bumper Mounted Clothes Line CL-100

Question:

how far behind the RV do the vertical poles extend? sometimes we park the RV near a fence and I need to be able to walk between it and the fence while I am doing laundry. I am about 5-feet tall.

Expert Reply:

The 4-foot vertical uprights included with the Stromberg Carlson Bumper Mounted Clothes Line for RVs # CL-100 angle back approximately 15-degrees. This allows them to clear a rear-mounted spare tire and/or a rear-mounted RV ladder. Please refer to the photo I linked for you.

This means that the tops of the two poles will be approximately 18-inches behind the rear surface of the RV. So your ability to walk behind the RV when it is parked near a fence or other structure will depend to a great degree on your height. Given that you are about 5-feet tall you should be able to pass behind the RV with the clothesline in place.

When laundry is done you need only stow the lightweight aluminum uprights and you're ready for the road; the mounting brackets can stay on your bumper even while you drive.

If you need more capacity or if you prefer another way to dry clothing you might also consider the ladder-mount Extend-A-Line Drying Rack # CL-27, which can handle twice the weight of the bumper-mount drying rack - a full 60-lbs.
