Clearance of the Kuat Transfer 2 on a 2011 Hyundai Sonata
Question:
Would the Kuat # TS029 be a good choice for a 2011 Hyundai Sonata? I have two carbon bikes and prefer to not have frame contact. Im specifically looking for ground clearance and clearance from the rack with bikes mounted to the trunk. Thanks.

The Kuat Transfer 2, part # KU74FR is a good pick for the 2011 Hyundai Sonata. It will sit close to the vehicle, but not risk impact of the bikes with the vehicle's trunk.
If you don't have a hitch already, I recommend the Draw-Tite Sportframe Hitch, part # 24965. This hitch will give you a trailer hitch receiver compatible with all Class I accessories and the ability to carry two bikes.
I've included a video of our demo team installing this hitch on a 2011 Hyundai Sonata, so you can get an idea of what the process involved in installing the hitch is like.
Additionally, they provide the ground clearance and trunk clearance in the video. The Draw-Tite SportFrame hitch has 3-1/2 inches from the center of its hitch pin hole to the furthest part of the bumper, and 10 inches from the ground to the top of its receiver. Adjusting for the hitch size of 1-1/4 inches, the bottom of any rack you install will be approximately 8-3/4 inches off the ground.
In total, you have approximately 2-1/2 inches from the nearest part of the bumper.
