How Far Apart Are Drawbars Spaced Apart On Roadmaster EZ Base Plate Kit #52285-1
Question:
What is the center to center measurement? I have a tow bar that adjusts from 24 to 43 and was wondering if it would work with this item. Regards,

I contacted our representative at Roadmaster about the Roadmaster EZ Base Plate Kit, part # 52285-1. He informed me that when the removable drawbars are attached, which is what will attach to your tow bar, it measures approximately 28-1/2 inches.
Yes, you will be able to attach your adjustable drawbar that is adjustable from 24 to 43 inches.
In addition to a tow bar, and a base plate kit, you will need safety cables, wiring or lighting, and a supplemental braking system to complete your flat-towing setup.
The Roadmaster Coiled Safety Cables, part # RM-643, will keep your vehicle attached to your motor home if your tow bar were to disconnect from the hitch ball.
For a lighting solution, you could use the Magnetic Towing Light Kit, part # RM-2120. If you are going to be towing your Insight often, I would recommend the Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit, part # RM-154 as it would just plug into your vehicle each time you tow.
Most states require a supplemental brake system be used when flat-towing a vehicle. I would recommend Roadmaster 9400 Portable Braking System, part # RM-9400, which will also help reduce wear on your motor home brakes and help you slow down.
Before flat-towing your Smart Car, you will want to contact your dealership for specific steps needed to take. Some vehicles must be equipped with a transmission lube pump, axle disconnect or free-wheeling hubs before being towed.
I have linked an FAQ on flat-towing that you may find as a good reference.
