Weight Distribution System for Sonic VRB 190 Travel Trailer Towed by 2003 Toyota 4Runner

Question:

First time RV buyer, just got a used Sonic VRB 190 trailer with a 4500 lb GVWR and want to pull with a 2003 Toyota 4-runner. The RV came with two Husky bars rated for 801-1200 lbs and a Husky sway control but no adjustable shank or head. Im looking for the best economical and weight matching way to get a weight distribution system. Are these bars too stout for this trailer, and would it be better to buy an entire system for best handling? Suggestions please! Thank you.

It is possible the Husky system may work for you, though it seems pretty likely that a trailer with a 4,500 lb GVWR won't need a weight distribution system rated as high as the 800 lbs - 1,200 lbs Husky system you have.

in order to choose the best weight distribution system, you will first need to know your total tongue weight (TTW), which is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to go Sonic VRB plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your 2003 Toyota 4Runner.

To determine your trailer's loaded tongue weight you can use a scale such as the # e99044 or by using one of the methods outlined in the help article on determining tongue weight I've linked for you. From there, simply add on the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your vehicle and you'll have your TTW. The ideal system would be one in which your TTW would fall somewhere in the middle of the weight distribution system's tongue weight capacity.

If you get back to me with your total tongue weight I'd be more than happy to recommend the best options for you.
