Troubleshooting Scratching Sound with Hubs and New Electric Brake Assemblies
Question:
I purchased this set of electric brakes and installed them. However when i put the old drum back on i get a scratching sound. It appears to rub on a tiny amount on the brake. It doesnt sound right and im wondering if i need drums that better fit this electric brake.

Unless your drums are really scratched up on the inside or have become misshapen, you most likely just need to adjust your new brakes # AKEBRK-35-SA. I've attached a video of the installation of our similar 12 inch assembly to assist. You may be interested in # W80630 for this adjustment.
Another way to adjust these self-adjusting assemblies is to go to a parking lot and gradually increase speeds and hit the manual override on your brake controller pretty hard over and over again. This is a not-so-comfortable, but easy way to adjust your trailer brakes that also works well.
