Tire Chains with Rim Protection for a 2017 Jeep Cherokee with 245/65-17 Tires

Question:

I own a 2017 Jeep cherokee trailhawk. Tire size 245/65 17. The manual says no tire chains for this size tire. The TC2317 shows my exact car as the example for this chain. The video clearly implies there is enough body clearance. Is this the correct chain for my vehicle or do you recommend another SAE Class S option. Also, what does no rim protection mean? Is there an additional item I can buy to protect my black rims? Thanks.

Since the owner's manual for your 2017 Jeep Cherokee says not use tire chains on your 245/65-17 tires then I cannot recommend you doing so. However, I certainly understand certain states require the use of them therefore the choice is ultimately up to you.

With that being said, we have indeed tested the Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains part # TC2317 on a similar 2017 Jeep Cherokee with 245/65-17 tires and did not run into any clearance issues when doing so. The Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chain is a confirmed fit for the 245/65-17 tires on your Jeep but they do not offer rim protection meaning there is no device that will stop the chains from making contact with the rims while in use.

For a tire chain option with rim protection that will also fit the 245/65-17 tires on your Jeep, I recommend taking a look at the Pewag Servo RS Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains part # PWRS80. In addition to rim protection, these tie chains are also going to provide more clearance than the Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains as they are about .5mm smaller.

I have attached an installation video of the Pewag Servo RS chains for you as well.
