3 Bike Trunk Mounted Bike Rack Recommendation for 2006 Honda Civic Sedan
Question:
We have a 2006 honda civic sedan for which we need a bike carrier that can transport 3 bikes of medium weight. and we are trying to decide what type of carrier would work trunk vs trailer hitch. We would like to get a trunk-based carrier but my concern with getting a trunk-based carrier are the hooks that have to go around the top of the trunk lid, which seem to have the potential of bending the lid and possibly causing damage to the sealing capacity of the lid. Is there a type of trunk-based carrier that would not have this problem, i.e., would not put much force on the lid or do we have to go with a hitch-based model to avoid this problem?

OutWay Part # TH56BV which is a confirmed fit for your 2006 Honda Civic sedan and would be a great option. It uses rubber-coated metal straps for securing the hooks to the vehicle which are much sturdier than the fabric straps of other racks.
As long as each of your bike racks doesn't weigh more than 33 lbs a piece this rack will fit and work well.
If you plan on carrying any women's or alternative framed bikes without horizontal top tubes you may also be interested in purchasing a Kuat Bike Frame Adapter Bar # UB01 to provide a horizontal top tube on your bikes to provide an attachment point. I attached a review video for this product also. This will allow the bikes to be carried more level and will provide more ground clearance.
