Should Brake Controller Power Output be Adjusted when Driving or Sitting Still

Question:

Do you make the adjustments when the vehicle and trailer is stopped? When driving through a rain storm pulling our travel trailer ....we came across a red light...applied the brakes. The anti lock brakes on the truck activated and the truck and trailer skidded/swerved. Does this tell us to increase the power to the quest or increase the sensitivity? Thanks so very much.

In the situation you described it would have been best to reduce the output from the controller to the trailer brakes. You can adjust the output when moving but it is better and safer to do so when sitting still.

If you are in a situation where you are driving such as what you described then you can use the manual override button on the brake controller so you don't send the full power back to the trailer brakes. Just press it enough to get some braking and if the trailer tires start to skid release the button a little until the wheels stop skidding.
