The shank on the RockyMounts BackStage, part # RKY10002 has the following dimensions from the center of the hitch pin hole:

To the end of the shank: 2-1/2 inches
To the nearest part of the carrier when folded down: 9-1/2 inches
To the nearest part of the carrier when folded up: 7 inches
To the furthest part of the rack when folded down: 34 inches
To the furthest part of the rack when folded up: 19 inches

The height of the swinging mechanism is 3-1/2 inches tall, and then 5 inches to the top of the pin that controls it. This is commonly the point that impacts vehicle doors.
