Troubleshooting Lippert Electric Motorcoach Steps on 2012 Tiffin Allegro
Question:
I have a 2012 Allegro bus 40 ft. The door steps will not extend. I replaced door switch and they worked for about 20 door openings. The motor and the mechanical parts all seem to work fine. When I push the door switch in I hear a faint click. The steps M#168367 Ser#1105759 Made in 2012. Made by Lippert Components. Thanks

Since your electric motorcoach steps seem to be mechanically okay (the linkage and motor appear to function properly) I would suspect either a problem with the 12V power wiring to the steps or with the connectors that link the various parts. After 5 years in use these connections could loosen up and/or develop some corrosion.
The faint click could be due to a weak power connection that is not able to deliver quite enough power to the motor to activate the steps. Check your main power connections, especially the ground. Make sure the connections are very tight and made to clean bare metal surfaces. A light sanding of those spots can help restore a connection that may have gone bad from corrosion.
I also suggest cleaning all accessible plugs/connectors with an electrical contact cleaner and applying a light dose of dielectric grease like # 11755 to keep moisture and dirt out of those clean connections.
My contact at Lippert confirmed the above troubleshooting steps are appropriate and he also provided links to documents with additional guidance. This has been sent to you in a separate email.
