Can Higher Load Range Trailer Tires Be Installed on Existing Rims

Can you replace a 10ply load range e tire with a 14 ply load range g tire using the same rim. Tire size being the same.

Yes, you absolutely can switch to a higher load range/higher ply rating tire of the same size on your existing rims.

For example, in the special trailer tire size ST235/85-16 a tire such as Taskmaster Load Range E radial tire # TTWTRTM2358016E can be replaced by the Load Range G tire # TTWPRG235R16.

Do please note that since these two tires require different PSI pressure ratings, 80-psi and 110-psi respectively, you need to use valve stems that can handle the higher pressure of the higher-rated tire. The shop that mounts the tires to your rims will need to install heavier-duty valve stems for the higher 110-psi pressure requirement of the G-rated tire.
