how would I wire it to my truck so that I could turn it on or off as needed?

The best way you could wire LED Trailer Utility Light # BUL78CB to turn on and off on demand is to wire it in line with a switch, # PK34513. The power wire from the light would attach to a wire on the switch and the other switch wire would go to the positive battery terminal. Don't forget to ground the light's white wire!
