Brake Controller Wiring Harness Port and Installing a 7-Way Trailer Connector, 2001 Chevy Silverado

Question:

I have an 01 Chevy Silverado without the tow package. I cant find any place a factory tow harness plugs into the electrical system. Also cant find where the trailer brake control would plug into my truck. Can you tell me what part numbers I need for a direct plug and play setup for my truck? If they make them. Thanks

I can help you with the parts you will need and where to install them. Even though your 2001 Chevy Silverado did not come with a factory installed 7-Way wiring harness, there is still a port for a 7-Way and for a brake controller.

Starting with a brake controller, you will want to plug in the wiring harness under the dash behind an electrical junction box cover to the left of the brake pedal. The brake controller wiring harness will plug into the empty spot on the top row, second from the left.

To install a a 7-Way wiring harness at the back you will need to located the factory wiring harness under the truck. It is located above the spare tire. If you see a bundle of wires in this area, you will need Pollak 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Connector Socket, # PK11898. If there is a round plug with a cap on it, you will need Multi-Tow 7-Way and 4-Way Trailer Connectors, # 30955.

There are also some connections that you will probably need to make under the hood to make the 7-Way and brake controller fully functional. I have included a link to an FAQ article that explains the above information along with the connections under the hood.
