How to Tell if Propane Regulator for RV is Horizontal or Vertical Mount

Question:

We have a 2012 Arctic Fox fifth wheel made by Northwood manufacturing that has 2 10# propane bottles. The valve we have now is horizontal and we need a transfer regulator for the 2 propane bottles. Will this one replace the one we now have?

Due to the orientation of the vent on the regulator part # CAM59005 it is a vertical regulator. For a similar horizontal regulator what you would need is the part # 108221 which is a similar 2 stage regulator but is instead designed for the horizontal mount.

I attached a picture that shows the vent pointed out. If the vent is perpendicular to the flow of the propane through the regulators then it's a horizontal mount but if it's parallel (like the one you mentioned), the orientation is considered vertical.

What happens if a vertical mount rv propane regulator is replaced by a horizontal mount? Is there a safety issue? Thanks

As long as you actually mount the new regulator horizontally, there's no issue at all with this. The main difference between the two styles is where the vent is located, and with both options it should point down. This is why they need to be mounted according to their style.
