Recommended Trailer Suspension Enhancement on 2017 Grand Design 30 Travel Trailer
Question:
I am not happy with the suspension on this trailer, lots of bounce. I would like to add shocks and perhaps a new equalizer. I believe the e-z flex will install easily, but the lippert shocks might be a problem. The bracket that holds the leaf springs and equalizer is not flush with the main frame, it protrudes about a half inch toward the tire. The upper shock bracket would require a fill behind the bracket and possibly longer screws to attach. Do you think these upgrades are appropriate, will improve my ride, and can be installed given the alignment problem? I am towing this unit with a ford 350 superduty 2003 which handles great without the trailer, but with the trailer I need both hands to make constant corrections. I think a steering stabilizer might cure that, the truck has a stabilizer but it is more like a shock, and 14 years old. What are your thoughts? Thanks

The E-Z Flex Heavy Duty Rubber Suspension System by Dexter Axle - 5-5/8" Equalizers # K71-652-00 will fit any system just like an equalizer regardless of the bracket, so this will be a good upgrade to take some of the bounce out of your trailer as it will absorb that shock. The shocks will assist to absorb more and won't be mounted to the area where the hanger protrudes from the frame, so there shouldn't be any alignment issues. Another option is to use the Timbren Trailer Suspension Enhancement System Medium-Duty Trailers 7,000 lbs # TTRA1032 which install over each axle.
For a completely different option that works great, you may want to consider the Timbren Silent Ride Suspension for Tandem Axle Trailers w/ 2-3/8" Round Axles - 7,000 lbs # TSR7000T04 which is a replacement for leaf spring suspension. It has the aeon rubber springs for suspension and utilizes walking beams with a single pivot point to equalize your suspension and keep your weight distributed evenly between axles.
