Recommended Weight Distribution System for Total Tongue Weight Up to 1000 lbs
Question:
Hi, I read that if my hitch does not have a weight distribution rating on it, I can not use a weight distribution setup with it. Can you explain why that is? Our hitch is rated 10,000#s with 1,000#s tongue weight. We have a 2013 Chevy Suburban. When I search for a weight distribution bar on your site, the Suburban doesnt come up as a model option.

It would be odd for a hitch of that size and capacity rating to not allow for weight distribution. For weight distribution systems, they are not based on the vehicle but on the total tongue weight that will be on the trailer hitch receiver. This total tongue weight includes the loaded tongue weight of your trailer as well as any cargo behind the rear axle of the Suburban. This total tongue weight needs to fall within the range of your weight distribution system.
For instance, the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW # EQ37100ET is an excellent system with the tongue weight rating of 600 to 1000 lbs total tongue weight. This system comes with a hitch ball and requires a thin walled socket like # ALL643216 to install. This system will use 4 point friction sway control to keep the trailer in line with the vehicle.
