Recommended Kayak Ceiling Storage for 2 Kayaks
Question:
I an looking for a hand winch to raise 2 kayaks to the ceiling for storage. Total weight would be less than 200 pounds. The winch would have to have a gear lock to allow the load to hang. A worm gear winch would work great IF it had a gear lock.

To raise and lower your kayaks, I recommend the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch with TUFFPLATE Finish, Two Speed with Direct Drive - 1,800 lbs # DL15504. This winch provides an easy to use hand brake to make lowering your kayaks fast and easy. This will work with a strap like # DL24249 or a cable like # DL24045.
Another option without the hand brake is the Pro Series Standard Brake Winch - Cable Only - 1,000 lbs # PSKR10000301 with cable # FWC7500100. This has a minimum weight of 50 lbs for the brake function to work correctly.
You may also be interested in the Malone Kayak Hammock Hoist System - 120 lbs # MPG346 which will work on up to 14 foot ceiling heights and will secure the load with a cleat mounted to the wall. You would need to use two of these for your application. The pulley system makes raising and lowering your kayaks easy.
