2017 Dodge Ram OEM Brake Controller Not Working with Carlisle HydraStar EOH Actuator
Question:
Hi, Ive heard that there is a module that can adapt the Carlisle EOH brake system in my 2005 Hart Trailer to my 2017 Dodge pick up. The trailer brakes worked fine with my 2007 Dodge truck, but had a controller installed that we could set for EOH. The new 2017 Dodge allows us to for EOS as well, but it isnt working. Thanks so much!

Carlisle HydraStar says that their EOH actuators, like part # HBA16, are compatible with the OEM brake controllers from Dodge. The problem that we have been seeing though is that even though OEM brake controllers are convenient, they tend to go bad or not work as well as promised. There is a module # HBA-CAM but it is only supposed to be used with some Ford and Chevy models.
What I recommend doing is getting a new brake controller that we know for sure is built to work with EOH systems like your Carlisle HydraStar. The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 is a great option for this and has been proven to work with the Carlisle HydraStar systems. It features an easy to read LCD screen which means you do not have to figure out what different codes mean. It will activate your trailer brakes proportionally with the brake pedal in your 2017 Dodge Ram and has tow settings that can be saved.
The best part is that it will simply plug into the port that your OEM brake controller is connected to using the Adapter # 3024-P. This makes connecting and disconnecting it very easy. I have attached a video of this process being done on a 2017 Ram 2500 that you can use as a reference.
