What To Do With Blue Wire In 2005 Chevrolet Silverado When Installing A Brake Controller

Question:

Where does the blue wire with the connector plug in? I have a 05 Silverado. It didnt come equipped with the 7 pin connector, but I bought the plug and play one with wiring harness from the dealer. Installed the controller plug and play again nut Im getting no power to controller or trailer brakes. I open the fuse box. The red wire is connected to the smaller post closest to the front. The blue wire with the connector on it isnt plugged in.

You are close on your install but have a few more steps to go. The blue wire in your Silverado is your "brake wire" for any trailer. It needs to be connected to the brake wire of your 7-Way connector. In order to make this connection, you will need to use a "double bonded" wire which we have in installation kit # 5506. This kit also includes breakers and attaching terminals which you may need. The steps to complete your installation are:

1. Connect one end of the 25 ft "double bonded" wire which is two wires to your 7-Way connector. The "white wire" in the gray housing needs to be connected to the "blue wire"/brake wire of your 7-Way connector. Likewise, the "black wire" in the gray housing needs to be connected to the "black wire"/power wire.

2. Run the "double bonded" gray wire underneath your vehicle to the engine compartment (see link for more details).

3. Pull "double bonded" gray wire into engine compartment and connect wires. Connect the white wire/brake wire to the blue wire from your vehicle under hood. Connect the black wire/power wire to the black wire from your vehicle. A 40 amp fuse will be needed in the last spot, closest to the post, to power the hot lead. One is provided in the kit if needed.
