Troubleshooting Only the Left Rear Blinker not Working on Trailer

Question:

Unfortunately I was not sold an inline trailer harness at UHaul I wish and didnt want to use those crappy snap connectors for splicing into my tail light wiring so i cut all the wires...First thing I did in doing that was fry the hazard fuse so i replaced that after wiring in the trailer harness... Assuming that the vans green wires are the running light wires I spliced in the trailer harness and rewired all the extra wires i cut for nothing..lol as i cut the whole thing off for some reason ... Well after rewiring everything, i found the trailer didnt light and the blinkers didnt work so thats when i discovered the fuse blown as specified above, replaced it, and regained my blinkers everywhere except for the left rear which still wont blink?? I also replaced the big flasher relay up under the dash with a factory relay before finding the bad fuse.. So i figure I bought the relay for nothing.. junk yard part anyways I put back the old relay in hopes that i bought a bad relay and one of them would fix the blinker issue but neither the old one or new one made a difference...I fixed the fuse and I do have blinkers and hazards on every light on vehicle except for the left rear..I have everything but the blinker not blinking in the left rear. The interior is blinking fast on the left side...All the bulbs work as i interchanged them to check. ..I hv running lights and break lights and reverse lights EVERYWHERE including the LEFT REAR THAT WONT BLINK. Im assuming all the van wires are hooked back up properly color to colorso why arent I getting a left blinker.. Listen to this...We ran a chk on the vans GREEN running light wire on the left rear and guess what.. Im getting NO POWER showing on the tester thru that wire and yet the left rear DOES still hv all the functions working except for the blinker..The green wire is the running light wire correct????? because thats the wire i had the trailer harness hooked up to. How can the running light wire hv no power coming thru it yet Im getting running lights. Dont forget, i put everything back the way it was color to color and all lights are on and working?? Just the left rear not blinking. Thats the wire I had the trailer harness spliced into so its no wonder my trailer didnt light... We jumped the traier lights off a battery and they do work perfectly... Just chked all fuses under hood not under dash tho yet, and all were good ...Im assuming the flasher is good if all the rest of the lights flash fine...Help.. In short...No power thru van green wire on left rear...No left rear blinker.... Is green wire the running light wire and if so, its dead and no power thru it so how are the running lights still working?? Where am i going wrong here.. If it were a bad ground wouldnt running lights and brake lights not be working??

I wish there was a universal color code for wiring so I could tell you the exact function of the green wire you were referring to, but unfortunately that isn't the case; you'd need to use a circuit tester such as # PTW2993 to test its function. There are a number of other things you can take a look at; since you've already determined the lights work find after hooking them up to a battery and if your fuses are okay, that narrows down what you'll have to do.

Start by using a circuit tester to check for function on your vehicle connector. Have someone engage each function while you test it. If everything checks out okay, you can move onto the trailer side connector and test to make sure the functions have a power reading there. If not, make sure your connectors are plugged in, and try to find any loose wires. Also check the connectors to ensure they are clean and free of corrosion, as that can hamper the signals.

From there, you need to check your ground connections. A bad ground would not necessarily prevent the other lights from not working if each component has its own ground, which is common. I've added a link to a help article on troubleshooting wiring which may prove useful, as well as a help article on wiring which has some diagrams that may be beneficial to you.
