How to Determine Correct Axle Position for Fabricated Ice House Trailer

Question:

I am building a similar ice house to whats shown in the picture. Question is how do I figure out the axle placement from front to back. I know there is some sort of percent and cannot seem to find any info or plans anywhere. I am using 2x3 1/8 rectangle steel. It will be axleless axles. Open to suggestions and if you have plans that would be great. Thank You

You can refer to the linked diagram for a general idea of where the axle should be positioned on a trailer. The idea is to place the axle relative to the overall weight load so that the trailer's tongue weight (TW) is in the range of about 12% of its gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR). Naturally the specifics of the rest of the trailer's construction will affect this.

Since you want an axle-less design you might be interested in the Timbren kits that bolt right on to the trailer frame, such as the 3500-lb-rated # A35RS545E. All such kits are shown on the linked page.
