Bearing Buddies Installation on 4x8 Harbor Freight Utility Trailer
Question:
I bought a used trailer but it has less than 100 miles on it. The seller thought the bearings came pre-assembled and pre-packed with grease so he really didnt know for sure. If I install bearing buddies, will they fill the bearings or do I have to take apart and start over cleaning and packing manually before installing bearing buddies?

Expert Reply:
The bearing buddy protectors will add grease to the bearings without needing to repack them. I suggest adding the Bearing Buddy # BB2047 which has been known to fit several Harbor Freight trailers including 90154, 42709, 90153, 42708, 2575, and 2948. After you fill them, drive the trailer for a few miles and then check the Bearing Buddies to add additional grease if needed. The pressure from the spring loaded seals in the Bearing Buddies will push the grease into the bearings to keep them lubricated properly. You will want to pay attention to the seals on the back of the hubs as this pressure can cause them to work harder.
