2-Speed Winch and Strap Recommendation for Winching Boat Into Boat House
Question:
It states the drum capacity for strap on DL14627 is 38. Im looking at that winch to pull a 16foot Lund with a 20 HP motor into our boathouse so I need about a 30 foot pull. Im considering a strap with a thickness of about .08 to .09 inches. Less muscular option is .049 inches thick. Will drum on this winch hold 35foot of these strap options? Do you have a recommendation? While youre at it am I looking at the right winch? Should I be looking at a 2 speed winch? The initial pull track from the lake is steeper than the roller track in the boathouse so the strain during the initial length of the pull is heavier than in the more level section in the boathouse.

For your application I would go with a 2 speed winch to give you the ability to slow the winch down when you need more lifting power or speed it up when the angle is quite as bad.
The Dutton Lainson part # DL14825 would be a great option as it has a 2,500 lb capacity and 2 speeds. It also has a max strap length of 38 feet. Longest strap we have though is 25 feet like the part # FWS20HD0200. Let me know if that would be long enough as you said around 30 feet.
