Adapter Needed to Carry 5th Wheel Hitch with a 2003 Ford F-350 8 foot Bed with a B&W Gooseneck Hitch
Question:
I currently have a 2003 ford f350 super duty with an 8 foot bed that has a bandw turn over ball in it, my dad has an 08 f450 8 foot bed with rails and a companion hitch, I was wondering if its possible for me to install 5th wheel rails so I can use his companion hitch. Or what other options might i have? We are going together on a 5th wheel camper so Id like to avoid bolting a 5th wheel to gooseneck adapter to the camper so theres nothing to take on and off between uses. Thank you for any help.

I do have a solution for you to carry a 5th wheel hitch that fits standard above bed base rails with the B&W Gooseneck Hitch # BWGNRK1108 installed on your 2003 Ford F-350 with an 8 foot bed. I believe that the 5th wheel hitch from B&W that you were referring to was the Patriot, like part # BWRVK3200 or part # BWRVK3255, as opposed to the B&W Companion, like part # BWRVK3500, which was built to install directly into a B&W Gooseneck Hitch.
If the B&W hitch that your Dad owns fits into standard base rails then you can simply use the Curt X5 5th Wheel Base Rails Adapter # 16310 which is rated for 20,000 lbs. This adapter will quickly install into the B&W Gooseneck Hitch that you have and gives you standard base rails in the bed of your truck.
Should either of your trucks not already have a 7-Way installed in the bed I recommend installing the Bargman # 50-97-410 which will give you a 7-Way in the bed to make connecting and disconnecting your trailer much easier.
I have attached some review and install videos for you to check out as well.
