Recommended Converter for 3rd Brake Light on Removable Camper Shell to Function with 4-way Trailer
Question:
I had to change out my LR light assembly, it had tied into it on the light assembly side of the harness my camper shell 3rd brake light. As i do not pull a trailer often i thought to just wire the camper shell 3rd brake light to a trailer harness and use that. I used the white lead on the harness to the black ground of the light and the red wire of the 3rd brake light to the brown wire of the harness... not working :

The removable camper is not wired correctly, but should still be giving you light. The ground wire of your light should be tied into the white ground wire of your trailer connector. The red power wire of your light should be connected only to a 3rd brake light wire or isolated wire that is not found in your 4-way trailer wiring harness. The brown wire is for running/tail lights not brake/stop lights.
To separate this out, you can use the Vehicle to Vehicle Tail Light Converter # 118158. You will simply splice in the input side to your wiring harness matching colors and then use the red stop output to connect to your camper shell brake light for power.
