Recommended Flat Towing Set-Up for 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe Manual Transmission

Question:

I am looking to purchase a tow bar for a 2011 Santa fe. To be pulled by an RV. I am confused as to whether I need to buy separate plates for the bumper, or if they are included with any of your tow bars

Your 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe can only be flat towed if it has a manual transmission. All automatic transmission models require a trailer with all 4 wheels off the ground.

If you have a manual transmission, you will need base plates to go with a tow bar. I recommend the Roadmaster EZ2 Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # 521630-1 which are a confirmed fit. For a tow bar, I recommend the Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar - Motorhome Mount - 2" Hitch - 6,000 lbs # RM-520. You will also want safety cables like # RM-643.

For tow bar wiring, I recommend the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267. This will give you diodes to protect your factory wiring, while utilizing the connections. It will also give you a clean connection and coiled wiring cable.

For supplemental braking, I recommend the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System - Proportional # SM99251. This system once installed gives you the ability to simply plug and play. It will give you braking at the same time and with the same intensity as you hit the brake pedal in your towing vehicle. You will need the Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-88400 to ensure the tail light wiring functions correctly for this system to work properly with your vehicle.

The last thing you need is a high-low adapter. I've attached an article to assist you in finding the correct part and have linked the page to all your options for your convenience.
