To install a gooseneck hitch on your 1997 Ford F-150 4x4 you will need to use the Curt 600 Series Gooseneck Installation Kit, part # C60637. This kit will install under the bed and use existing holes in the vehicles frame. This installation kit will only work with the Curt Double Lock, Flip and Store gooseneck hitch or the Curt Quick Goose 2 gooseneck hitch. I am including a link to the installation instructions on the Curt installation kit.

If you need the hitch and the installation kit you can order the Curt Quick Goose 2 Gooseneck Hitch with Installation Kit, part # C630-637. I am including a link to the installation instructions on the Curt Quick Goose 2 hitch.

The Reese Gooseneck Installation Kit, part # 4437, is for the 2004 to 2010 Ford F-150 vehicles. It will not fit your 1997 Ford F-150 vehicle.

If you will need to have a 7-Way connector in your truck bed I would recommend the Draw-Tite Fifth Wheel and Gooseneck Trailer Hitch Wiring Connector, part # 20030. It connects directly to your factory OEM connector and gives you an additional 7-Way in the truck bed.
