Troubleshooting Slow and Weak Landing Gear on 2008 Keystone Everest 5th Wheel Trailer

Question:

2008 Keystone Everest 5th wheel 293P. My landing leg motor is very slow and weak. My trailer tongue weight is about 2500 lbs. The motor runs very slow then trips the resettable breaker. If my wife pushes the button and I use the hand crank we can get it up enough to hook up. I dont know if I just need the motor or If I should buy the transmission as well please advise thanks Gerry

The motor very well might need to be replaced on your 2008 Keystone Everest 5th Wheel Trailer, but there are a few other possible reasons for its slow operation that I recommend checking first.

A slow and weak motor can also be caused by low battery voltage. Check to make sure your trailer battery is in good working order and fully charged. The fact that it is tripping the breaker can also indicate this as the primary cause, as the motor is having to draw more power than what the breaker is rated for.

Next, check to make sure the jack motor is grounded properly, as a bad ground can lead to the weak performance you are experiencing. Lastly, make sure the jack screws and pinion gear are properly lubricated.

If everything checks out, then the motor is the likely culprit. For your Lippert landing gear, you can use the Landing Gear Motor # LC142178. For a replacement Gearbox, use part # LG-179015.
