How Much Clearance is Needed to Convert from 175/80R-13 to 205/75R-14 Tires and Wheels

Question:

I want to go to an ST 205/75R-14 from an ST 175/80R-13. How much clearance do I need around my existing tire in order to go to the bigger size?

We recommend leaving 4-1/2 inches of clearance between the top of the tire and the trailer. A 205/75-14 tire would come about 1.1 inches closer to the trailer. You'll also want to make sure the tire doesn't come into contact with the trailer frame on the sides. A 205/75-14 tire would be about 1.18 inches wider than the smaller tire, so as long as you have enough clearance to allow for this extra width, you should be fine.

For a 205/75-14 radial tire, I recommend the Taskmaster # TR20514. This high-quality load range C tire is excellent for highway use and has a maximum load of 1,760 lbs. It also comes with a 2-year warranty.

We also have a variety of tire/wheel combinations for this tire size. I've linked our selection for you.

I'm attaching a few product review videos for you to check out.
