Trunk Mount Bike Rack, Trailer Hitch, and Hitch Mount Bike Rack Recommendations for 2017 Audi Q5

Question:

Is there a trunk rack that will work with 2017 Audi Q5? It seems like there are some for earlier models of Q5, but I cant find anything that specifically says it will work on the 2017 Q5. If this one does work, can the hatch be opened with the bike rack attached without the bike of course? Thanks!

I have also included a link to the other trunk mount racks confirmed to fit your Q5 but I would still recommend the Over-the-Top rack as the best fit.

No trunk mount bike racks can stay installed and allow you to open the rear hatch. The additional weight could cause the hatch to fall, it puts extra stress on hatch hinges, and vehicle damage could occur because the rack straps that hold it on would loosen.

In order to have a rack that will allow you to open the rear hatch with or without bikes loaded you would need a hitch mounted bike rack. That would first require a trailer hitch # 75940. Then you could use a hitch mounted bike rack that either tilts or swings away from your Audi.

For any of the above bike racks: If you will be carrying any bikes that do not have a top frame bar that goes straight across (like a typical men's bike would) then I recommend using bike adapter bar # 64005. This will allow you to carry those bikes more level and will provide better ground clearance. I have linked a video showing how the adapter works.
